The Power of a Story

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

A story told only by words is inadequate in accurately expressing what is happening. Words are limited – 26 letters to create a word that has certain connotations relating to the individual. But, with the help of photos, a story can not only be read, but viewed. Combining words and photos to tell a story ultimately have the most impact. The words and photographs work cooperatively to reveal a story.

Market

Enjoy the pictures – they are long overdue. I have not picked up my camera in about a month, so I took it along today on the way to the market. The market was great and I ended up spending way more than I wanted on fruit, but it looked so yummy.

Classes Start

Today is my first day of college. I am embarking on a new journey in my life and writing a new chapter in my life. Who knows what this chapter will hold? My hope is that the pages are filled with opportunities, adventures and happiness. Surely there will be stress, anxiety and some crazy times, but everything is new here, including myself. I can be whoever I want to be and as appealing as that is, I am going to remain myself. Everybody will still be able to count on my sarcasm, my focus on school and the love I have for those around me. With that in mind, I do have some goals for college. Every week I plan on eating 3-4 salads. It’s important to eat healthy, which is pretty easy to do at Seattle University. I am also going to strive to slowly eliminate the word ‘like’ from my vocabulary. It has become far too common in everyday conversation and is quite unnecessary. I have some names I strongly urge you to look up and explore. The first is Maura Cullen, who came and spoke about diversity. She was quite the lady. If you ever have the opportunity to hear her speak, I strongly recommend you give it a shot. The other name is Will Keim. He has to be one of the most hilarious speakers I have ever listened to. He spoke to us about college and succeeding, but did so in a manner where we  could laugh and still retain the message. Some may find him offensive, but to me he was a perfect speaker to have before classes started. As I settle into a routine here it is my hope that I will take some pictures to display. The area is beautiful. Enjoy!
